Addressing Environmental Issues in the Black Sea Basin
Volume 1.
After World War II, environmental problems became increasingly important in the context of the foreign policies of states in parallel with the increase in the international nature of the issue. Unlike yesterday, today’s environmental problems have local, regional and international concepts. The problems experienced de facto in the Black Sea are a good example in this regard. These environmental problems are primarily and especially the common regional problem of the coastal six countries. This study aims to analyze these problems within the framework of the determination of the current situation, solution efforts and cooperation activities in this context. In the context of this cooperation, the contributions of volunteer pennies at the local and regional level will also be examined here.
If the environment is defined as everything that affects and affects man, the roots of environmental problems go back to the earliest ages of history. However, the serious deterioration of the ecosystem and the becoming dangerous for living things coincides with the aftermath of the industrial revolution. Because in real terms, human domination of nature began with the industrial revolution. Another aspect of the issue is the fact that the problem affects all mankind, regardless of the cause and who is responsible. Environmental problems today have become a threat to the whole world with its developed- underdeveloped, eastern-western, southern-northern and socialist-capitalist. Since this fact has become well understood in recent years, the issue now stands as an area where common remedies and solution efforts are concentrated. Environmental issues are also closely related to many economic, social, cultural and political-administrative parameters with their cumulative nature, and the issue of what can be done on an international and global basis for our common future, and what joint projects and cooperation efforts can be exhibited, is becoming increasingly important.
The Black Sea is an important example of environmental problems that show that they have international, regional and local characteristics. Today, the Black Sea is facing an environmental catastrophe that has reached dimensions far beyond the six coastal countries, both in the context of causes and consequences. The geo-strategic, geoeconomic and geo-political importance of the region brings with it important outcomes in the field of environmental problems and requires a number of initiatives and cooperation efforts that have become a necessity to be carried out in this context.
The pollution of the Black Sea is the problem of the whole region as well as the coastal countries and is rapidly gaining an international quality. In this context, private to general initiatives and cooperation efforts require national and regional cooperation, from public institutions to voluntary organizations. From this point on, this study focuses on the pollution of the Black Sea as a centered on causes, consequences and solutions. In the study, these search for solutions and cooperation efforts are emphasized by highlighting the unresirable nature of environmental problems and the direction of being an international actor.
As a Regional Environmental Problem, The Pollution of the Black Sea Cumulative and Cross-Border Nature Of Environmental Problems The problems caused by environmental disturbances and generally called environmental problems stand as one of the most serious problems faced by humanity from the past to the present. Man has been constantly interacting with his environment since the day he existed, and within the framework of this interaction, he wanted to dominate his environment and change it according to his own desires and needs. However, in doing so, it caused deterioration around it, overuse it, disrupted the ecological balance, caused its depletion and applied pressures that exceeded the resistance power at the core of the environment, causing a series of very extensive and complex (Lecomber 1993:87) problems called environmental problems.
