Every year, June 5 is World Environment Day. Marking this day is one of the main means by which the United Nations seeks to stimulate people’s concern for the protection of the environment and at the same time to sensitize policy makers to act in this regard.
World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. This year marked a turning point in the development of international environmental policy by organizing, under the auspices of the UN, the first major conference on environmental issues.
World Environment Day is a day marked in the calendar to raise awareness and inform about the importance of a clean and healthy environment and to take all measures to protect it.
The event is hosted each year in a different country, with activities focused on a specific theme. The host country for this year’s event is Pakistan.
The theme of the event differs from year to year, and this year the theme set by the United Nations is “Restoration of ecosystems”.
An ecosystem comprises all living organisms and the interactions between them in a certain place, they include forests, rivers, meadows, wetlands.
Ecosystems support all life forms on Earth, offer us huge benefits, including a stable climate and clean air, water supply, food, host precious wildlife, are important for our physical and mental health, protect us from climate change.
Each of us has a moral duty to do something positive to protect the environment.
